Car hire building LCA

The new Car Hire Building at London City Airport was completed on time and within budget to the delight of the client. These works were completed late September 09 which enabled the existing car hire desks to be relocated from the main terminal building in preparation for a new cafe to be installed which forms part of the CSEP project. 

     

» FLYBE AND RE-PACKING AREA

Description of the Works:- The Flybe Desk alteration/refurbishment works were handed over within programme and to the satisfaction of the client (see
Testimonials page). These works included the installation of a new repacking area which included new cladding panels, bomb proof screens and associated builders work. Most of the works were carried out at night due to the close proximity of the passengers which meant that the site had to be handed over every morning to ensure that the area was safe for passengers.

Description of the Works:-
We achieved practical completion on 23rd March which was in accordance with the programme. The majority of the works were carried out night/weekends and comprised the main toilets refurbishment, new ceilings, floor tiling and associated decorations. A fair proportion of the builders works accounted for bespoke joinery which was designed and finished to a high class specification which followed the same vein as Phase 1 (Lounge extension). The mechanical, electrical and BMS was based on a design and build which encompassed the specific requirements as requested by Harrison Design and the LCY maintenance team. The sprinkler system and fire alarms were designed by the specialist contractors and approved by LCY in accordance with their insurance requirements.

The project was on a design and build basis. AA Lovegrove were responsible for all M&E installations, bespoke joinery/furniture and specialist flooring.

Description of the Works:-
We carried out the hoardings, bulkheads, new ceilings and the refurbishment of Thomas Cook. A certain element of the works had to be carried out at night as the project location was in the middle of the concourse. The works were carried out to a high standard and within programme to the delight of the client and management team. (see separate testimonial)
 


» AER LINGUS, PIER 2, GATWICK AIRPORT

Description of the Works:-
Works included the refurbishment of ground level accommodation to provide office space for our client. The project included new partitions, ceilings, carpet and decorations. Also the scope called for a new electrical installation to provide small power and lighting to suit the proposed office environment. New air conditioning units were installed to meet the specification of the landlord (BAA). The project finished up with the installation of furniture from our specialist supplier. All works were completed to the satisfaction of our client which were executed during the short allocated timescale.

These works included Mechanical installations at Stand 54, Asbestos removal, refurbishment of the BA 4th floor lounge, and groundwork's at the World Cargo Centre. 
 


» DEPARTURE LOUNGE EXTENSION, LONDON CITY AIRPORT [ » PHOTOS ]

Description of the Works:-
The main works were completed early May (8 weeks) and the new '10-28' bar opened a month later to the delight of the project team and the client. The extent of the works enabled the departure lounge to be increased by approx. 340 seats including a new extended floor area, bar, food servery and associated amenities to suit the travelling customers. Encompassed within the overall works were the construction of 2No. new retail units (WH Smith & Nuance) which provided an invitation for passengers to purchase duty free goods walking through to the new seating area. Also tucked away within the extended area is the Snug lounge which provides an area of tranquillity for today's busy travelling executives. The design, as carried out by Harrison Design, provides a bright, inviting atmosphere to the area including high quality joinery and finishes which retains a high class appearance. 
 


» JET CENTRE REFURBISHMENT / EXTENSION, LONDON CITY AIRPORT [ » PHOTOS ]

Description of the Works:- The
project was completed mid July to the satisfaction of the Project Manager. The project comprised the total refurbishment and alteration of the ground floor area to bring the Jet Centre in line with the DFT requirements on arrivals and departures. New modular
 units were supplied to provide an extension to the building which were fitted out to match the specification and finishes of the existing area. New foundations and groundworks were provided to enable the new extension to be sited including necessary foul and surface water drainage. All associated mechanical and electrical works were carried out by us in accordance with Atkins consulting engineers. Some of the areas were left as shell and core to enable the tenants to fit out their own areas.


» TUCKER HOSTEL, NCYPE, LINGFIELD

Client:- NCYPE (National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy)

Programme:- 24 weeks
Description of the Works:-
The works comprised the total refurbishment of the Tucker Hostel located within the grounds of NCYPE. The existing blockwork partitions (some loadbearing) were stripped out, the roof temporarily propped and new steelwork supports installed. New robust studwork partitions were then constructed to form 10No. bedrooms and ensuites to facilitate the disabled children. A completely new electrical and heating system was installed as designed by Lee Evans Partnership. A substantial amount of new internal below ground drainage had to be installed to accommodate the new en-suites including grading the solid floors to provide walk in shower areas. New floor finishes were installed throughout as indicated by the Design Team.
 


» 2ND FLOOR, SWAH, EPSOM

Description of the Works:-
Part of the 2nd floor at Sir William Atkins House (SWAH) was refurbished as required by the client (Atkins Ltd). The existing carpets were stripped up and renewed including the relocation/installation of new floor boxes. New Polar full height glazing was installed to form new offices and a conference room as designed by Atkins. Also new lighting was installed which included the renewal of the ceiling to some of the offices. A new AC unit was installed to the conference room and designed graphics installed to some of the wall areas.

Description of the Works:- The works comprised the total refurbishment of this Atkins owned 3 storey office building. Each floor plate was totally stripped out and then subsequently fitted out including new ceilings, flooring, partitions etc. including a total refurbishment of the M&E systems. The common areas, including stairwell, reception and toilets, were also refurbished to a high standard to meet the specification as stipulated by the Atkins Design Team. Several specialist contractors were employed as named by the client to install the high class graphics and fixtures. The external of the building was overhauled by carrying out decorations and the specialist cleaning of the pre-finished glazed facade and windows.
 


» JET CENTRE EXTENSION, LONDON CITY AIRPORT

Description of the Works:- The base preparation for the installation of the modular extension including groundworks and drainage. Once the modular

building had been installed into position then the complete fit out was carried out.

» REFURBISHMENT OF TOILETS AND CHECK IN DESK, LONDON CITY AIRPORT

Description of the Works:- The works included the addition of 6No. check-in-desks to the main terminal. The next phase then included the staggered completion of the main toilet areas to the satisfaction of the client. The works comprised the following:-

Installation of panels and cubicles

Description of the Works:- To carrying out the construction of new welfare facilities for manual workers in preparation of the new Mini launch. The project included the construction of smoking rooms, amenity areas, toilets and offices. The programme was ‘non-flexible’ as the whole of the works had to be completed for the launch date. The works mainly comprised the following:-

Description of the Works:- Total refurbishment of 4no. floors to office building. The works comprised renewal of suspended ceilings / flooring and finishes including the upgrading of mechanical and electrical. The works included the following:-

Upgrade of mechanical plant

Description of the Works:- Construction of 1 hour fire rated hoardings (BAA standard) to encompass the fit out works. Also the construction of shaft walls inclusive of all access equipment. Most of the works were carried out between 10.00pm to 4.00am.
